NYPD goes hybrid.

May 4th, 2009

The New York City Police Department has deployed 40 Nissan Altima Hybrids into is fleet of service vehicles.  There are 18 “marked” (meaning there is striping and a light bar to make it obvious it is a patrol vehicle) and 22 “unmarked” vehicles.  The department expects to add another 130 Hybrid vehicles to it’s fleet this year.

Government recruiting takes a twist.

Want a government or military job?  Better update your Facebook page and start Twittering.  Some branches of the military have started looking online to do their recruiting.  Various branches and commands have started Facebook sites, and military big-wigs have started Twittering their thoughts.

Linux gets a boost.

May 3rd, 2009

It looks like the Linux marketshare has taken a boost.  According to NetApplications (via Berkeley LUG), the operating system has now reached 1% of the total market share.  What does this mean?  Two things really.  One, TECHNICALLY it means 1 in 100 computers are running some variant of Linux as an operating system.  The second thing, is due to the methodology of the survey, the number is probably wrong, and on the VERY low end.

Here we go again!

Yet another iteration of The Daily Geek, and yet another blog software search.  Again, I tried every platform I could think of and find, even went with a few CMS type systems to try them out.  Once again, I went with WordPress.  I needed something stable, that WORKS out of the box, and that I can update from my Blackberry.  WordPress fit all those things, and by NOT going with Wordpress.com, I can customize my blog the way *I* want it to look (no offense, I just don’t like anyone telling me what I can and can’t do with my blog when it comes to java, plugins, themes, etc.).  So here we go again!

Enjoy!
